Upon landing at Noi Bai International Airport, you will be warmly welcomed by your guide/driver. Then, you will transfer to your hotel in the city center. Depending on your arrival time, check-in may be available (hotel check-in time is usually after 2:00 PM). Early check-in is subject to availability or an additional fee.
In the afternoon, let’s begin your tour at the vibrant Old Quarter, where the maze of streets is named after traditional trades and crafts, and visit Hoan Kiem Lake (Lake of the Returned Sword): Take a scenic walk around the lake, the heart of Hanoi, and admire the iconic Red Bridge leading to Ngoc Son Temple (Temple of the Jade Mountain), dedicated to Confucian and Taoist deities.
After the Old Quarter, head to the Temple of Literature, Vietnam’s first university. This serene complex, built in 1070, honors Confucius and celebrates Vietnam’s scholars. Stroll through its courtyards and marvel at the ancient architecture and steel of doctors.
In the evening, you will enjoy a Vietnamese water puppet show at a local theater. This art form originated from the Red River Delta and showcases traditional tales, folklore, and music. The show typically lasts about 45 minutes.
Return to your hotel and unwind after your first day in Hanoi. If time allows, enjoy the night vibe of Hanoi by visiting a café or taking a short stroll around the Night Market on your own (if your arrival is on a weekend).

Northern Vietnam is a land of legends, where history, culture, and breathtaking landscapes combine to create unforgettable journeys. For travelers short on time but eager to capture the essence of Vietnam, the Escape to Northern Vietnam 5 Days 4 Nights tour is the perfect solution. In less than a week, you will explore Hanoi’s timeless charm, venture into the dramatic limestone peaks of Ninh Binh, cruise through the magical waters of Ha Long Bay and Lan Ha Bay, and wrap up with a cultural exploration of Halong city.
This carefully crafted itinerary offers an excellent balance between sightseeing, relaxation, and authentic cultural experiences, making it an ideal choice for first-time visitors as well as seasoned travelers looking for a compact yet meaningful adventure. Let’s find out with Asian Link Travel
Travelers often debate which part of Vietnam to explore – the energetic south, the charming central coast, or the mysterious north. The northern region stands out because it retains a stronger sense of heritage, with landscapes and traditions that seem untouched by time.
Northern Vietnam is home to some of the most spectacular natural scenery in Asia. The dramatic karst mountains of Ha Long Bay are world-famous, yet equally impressive are the tranquil rivers and rice fields of Ninh Binh. Each destination in the north feels like a different painting, from emerald waters dotted with limestone islets to lush valleys framed by mountains. Travelers looking for variety will not be disappointed – every day offers new scenery that feels worlds apart from the previous.
The region is also the cradle of Vietnamese civilization, where ancient dynasties built temples, pagodas, and citadels that still stand today. In Hanoi, you’ll find the Temple of Literature, a thousand-year-old Confucian academy, alongside bustling streets selling traditional crafts. Rural areas maintain festivals, folk songs, and customs passed down through generations. This living heritage allows visitors to step back in time while still enjoying modern comforts.
Beyond the sights, what makes Northern Vietnam unforgettable is its people. From friendly street vendors in Hanoi’s Old Quarter to local boat rowers in Ninh Binh, hospitality is sincere and heartfelt. Travelers are often touched by the warm smiles and genuine interest locals show in sharing their culture. This human connection transforms the tour from a simple trip into an enriching cultural exchange.

Every tour has its highlights, but this journey stands out because it combines the three most iconic destinations in Northern Vietnam.
Hanoi is the beating heart of the country, where the old meets the new. You’ll wander through narrow alleys filled with ancient houses, savor local street food, and visit landmarks such as Hoan Kiem Lake and the Ho Chi Minh Mausoleum. Hanoi is not just a starting point but an essential highlight, offering a crash course in Vietnamese history and daily life.
No trip to Vietnam is complete without Ha Long Bay. A UNESCO World Heritage Site, the bay is famous for its thousands of limestone islands rising from emerald waters. Cruising here feels surreal, especially when the sun sets behind the karsts. The experience includes kayaking, swimming, and even overnight stays on luxury ships – something travelers describe as a once-in-a-lifetime experience.
Often overlooked, Ninh Binh is a hidden gem. Its landscape is equally stunning as Ha Long Bay but on land, with dramatic cliffs surrounding peaceful rivers and rice paddies. Boat rides through Tam Coc or Trang An take you through caves and under towering cliffs, while Hang Mua offers panoramic views after a rewarding climb. Visiting Ninh Binh gives travelers a taste of rural Vietnam at its most authentic.

This 5-day, 4-night itinerary is designed to maximize your experience without overwhelming you. Each day focuses on a different aspect of Northern Vietnam, ensuring a balanced journey.
Upon arrival in Hanoi, you’ll be greeted and transferred to your hotel. The day is dedicated to exploring the city’s highlights, such as the Old Quarter, Hoan Kiem Lake, and Ngoc Son Temple. A walking tour introduces you to the vibrant street life and the unique blend of French colonial and Vietnamese architecture. Even without scheduled meals, you’ll have the chance to sample street food like banh mi and pho – an immediate immersion into Vietnamese culture.
After breakfast, you’ll travel to Ninh Binh. The first stop is Hoa Lu, the ancient capital of Vietnam, where you’ll explore temples dedicated to past kings. Then comes Tam Coc, often called the “Halong Bay on land,” where a boat trip takes you through caves and past rice fields. A climb up Hang Mua offers panoramic views of the region. Lunch is included, giving you a taste of local specialties such as goat meat and crispy rice. The day combines history, nature, and adventure in a single package.
On the third day, you’ll head to the coast for the highlight of the journey – Ha Long Bay. Upon boarding your cruise, you’ll sail into Lan Ha Bay, a quieter extension of Ha Long with equally stunning scenery. Activities may include kayaking through hidden lagoons, swimming in clear waters, or simply relaxing on deck. Dinner on board features fresh seafood, followed by an overnight stay in your comfortable cabin, gently rocked to sleep by the waves.
Wake up early for a sunrise over the bay, a magical moment not to be missed. After breakfast, continue exploring Lan Ha and Ha Long Bay, passing by iconic rock formations and floating villages. A light brunch is served before disembarkation. Back on land, you’ll transfer to Halong city, where you can stroll along the seaside promenade or visit local markets. This transition allows you to experience both the natural and urban sides of the bay area.
The final day begins with a short city tour of Halong, giving you a deeper understanding of the area beyond its bay. After lunch, you’ll return to Hanoi for your departure flight. Though the journey is short, you leave with lasting impressions and countless memories of Northern Vietnam’s landscapes and culture.
The Escape to Northern Vietnam 5 Days 4 Nights package is versatile, making it suitable for a wide range of travelers.
First-time travelers often want to see the most famous sites without worrying about logistics. This tour provides exactly that – an organized, safe, and enriching experience that covers Vietnam’s highlights in a short time frame.
Couples looking for a romantic getaway will love the overnight cruise, while families will find the itinerary balanced with activities suitable for all ages. The absence of strenuous trekking means children and older travelers can also enjoy the trip.
For those who crave more than just sightseeing, this tour delivers authentic experiences – tasting local food, meeting villagers, and exploring ancient temples. Nature lovers, on the other hand, will find joy in landscapes that range from mountains to seas.
Life isn’t just about the destination; it’s a journey filled with unique experiences you will gain along the way. These unique experiences you will gain are the very spice that makes life meaningful and rich.
Food is an essential part of Vietnamese culture, and this tour ensures you experience it fully. From Hanoi’s street food stalls to seafood dinners on Ha Long Bay, every meal introduces new flavors. Travelers often say food was one of the highlights of their trip.
Sleeping on a cruise surrounded by limestone cliffs is a memory you’ll treasure forever. Unlike day trips, an overnight cruise allows you to see the bay at sunrise and sunset – two of its most magical moments.
The rowing boat ride in Tam Coc or Trang An is another unforgettable highlight. Passing through caves and beneath massive cliffs, you feel completely immersed in nature. The slow pace allows you to relax and absorb the peaceful atmosphere.
Throughout the tour, you’ll encounter local markets – places filled with colors, sounds, and smells. Observing daily life and interacting with vendors provides insight into Vietnamese culture beyond monuments and landscapes.
