Cu Chi tunnels played a vital part in the U.S.-Vietnam War in that they allowed the Viet Cong to control a large rural area only 30 to 40 km from former Saigon.
At its height, the tunnel system stretched from Saigon to the Cambodian border. The network, parts of which were several levels deep, included innumerable trap doors, specially constructed living areas, storage facilities, weapons factories, field hospitals, command centers, and kitchens.
Today the remaining tunnels have become a major tourist attraction, giving the visitor a unique experience and feel of what underground life during the war must have been like.
The tunnels have been widened for our benefit (otherwise we would not be able to enter them!) For those interested, there’s even the opportunity to try an AK47 or MK16 at the nearby rifle range. (At your own cost).

Northern Vietnam is often called the cradle of Vietnamese civilization. With Hanoi as its cultural heart and breathtaking landscapes surrounding it, the region provides both intellectual depth and natural wonder. This part of the journey invites you to slow down, explore centuries-old traditions, and marvel at landscapes shaped over millennia.
Hanoi offers a living history lesson in every street corner. The Old Quarter, with its bustling lanes named after traditional crafts, gives a glimpse into the city’s mercantile past. As you stroll, the fragrance of pho rises from roadside kitchens, mingling with the hum of daily life.
During the tour, you’ll visit the Ho Chi Minh Mausoleum, where the nation’s revered leader rests, and the nearby One Pillar Pagoda, an 11th-century Buddhist monument symbolizing purity and resilience. The Temple of Literature, dedicated to Confucius, reflects Vietnam’s longstanding reverence for scholarship. Evenings may bring performances of water puppetry—an art form born in rice paddies centuries ago. Hanoi is not just a city; it is the beating heart of Vietnamese identity.
Just a short drive from Hanoi lies Ninh Binh, a landscape so striking it is often described as a “halong bay on land.” Here, limestone cliffs rise dramatically from emerald rice paddies, and tranquil rivers carve through hidden caves. A sampan ride along the Tam Coc or Trang An waterways allows you to glide beneath stone arches while herons soar overhead.
The region is steeped in history as well. Hoa Lu, Vietnam’s ancient capital, still houses temples dedicated to early kings. Villages along the way illustrate the enduring simplicity of rural life, where families tend rice fields as they have for generations. Ninh Binh is a place of poetry and calm, offering a profound contrast to Hanoi’s urban dynamism.
Halong Bay, with nearly 2,000 limestone islets rising from jade-green waters, is Vietnam’s most iconic natural wonder. Declared a UNESCO World Heritage Site, it mesmerizes travelers with its ethereal beauty. On this tour, you’ll board a comfortable cruise ship, enjoying panoramic views as you sail past karst formations sculpted by time.
Activities such as kayaking through hidden lagoons, visiting pearl farms, or exploring vast caves like Sung Sot add variety to the journey. At night, dining on fresh seafood under the stars becomes a memory of pure enchantment. For many travelers, Halong Bay is not only a highlight of Vietnam but of their entire journey through Asia.
While the north embodies tradition and reflection, the south pulses with modern energy and tropical abundance. From Ho Chi Minh City’s skyscrapers to the Mekong Delta’s fertile waterways, this region demonstrates Vietnam’s dynamism. Traveling south means stepping into a faster rhythm and warmer embrace, balanced by the calm of river life.
Ho Chi Minh City, formerly known as Saigon, is Vietnam’s commercial capital and a city that never sleeps. Towering office buildings and buzzing motorbike traffic coexist with French colonial landmarks such as the Notre Dame Cathedral and Central Post Office. Markets like Ben Thanh showcase both traditional crafts and contemporary fashion, offering a window into urban culture.
The city also bears witness to Vietnam’s modern history. A visit to the War Remnants Museum provides sobering insight into the nation’s struggles, while the Cu Chi Tunnels—an underground network stretching hundreds of kilometers—reveal the ingenuity and resilience of those who fought here. Yet beyond history, Ho Chi Minh City thrives as a modern hub of creativity, cuisine, and commerce.
The Mekong Delta, often called the “rice bowl” of Vietnam, is a labyrinth of rivers, canals, and green fields. Here, daily life revolves around water. Farmers transport crops by boat, floating markets bustle at dawn, and children wave from stilted houses along the banks.
On this tour, you’ll step into sampans to explore narrow channels shaded by coconut palms. Visits to orchards and local workshops reveal the artistry of the delta—whether making coconut candy, weaving mats, or cultivating exotic fruits. Sharing meals with local families brings not just food but stories, offering travelers a genuine taste of hospitality. In the Mekong, time slows down, and the river carries you into Vietnam’s rural heart.
For those wishing to extend the journey, southern Vietnam offers idyllic escapes. Phu Quoc Island, with its white-sand beaches and turquoise waters, is a haven for relaxation. Con Dao, once a remote prison island, is today a destination of pristine beauty and tranquility. These islands provide a tropical finale—perfect for unwinding after days of cultural immersion.
Great journeys are defined not only by destinations but by how they are experienced. Asian Link Travel ensures that every aspect of your trip is smooth, safe, and enjoyable. From transportation to accommodations, every detail is carefully arranged so you can focus on discovery.
Throughout the itinerary, you’ll travel in air-conditioned vehicles, ensuring comfort even in tropical heat. A domestic flight from Hanoi to Ho Chi Minh City is included, saving you time and energy. Drivers and guides are punctual and professional, leaving you free to enjoy the views instead of worrying about logistics.
Your hotels are chosen for both convenience and charm. Each property offers comfortable rooms, reliable amenities, and locations near major attractions. Daily breakfast is included, providing energy for the adventures ahead. Whether overlooking Hanoi’s bustling streets or Ho Chi Minh City’s skyline, your accommodations will feel like a welcoming retreat.
Asian Link Travel’s guides are the soul of the journey. Fluent in English and deeply knowledgeable about local history, culture, and traditions, they enrich every stop with context. Their passion ensures that you don’t just see Vietnam—you understand it. Many travelers describe their guides as friends, not just facilitators, making the journey more personal and memorable.
Vietnam’s culture and cuisine are as diverse as its landscapes. Traveling from north to south reveals a culinary and cultural journey that mirrors the nation’s geography.
Northern Vietnamese food is subtle and balanced, reflecting a philosophy of harmony. You’ll taste pho, the internationally beloved noodle soup, and bun cha, a dish of grilled pork with noodles and herbs. Meals emphasize freshness, with herbs and vegetables complementing delicate broths. Dining in Hanoi often feels like stepping into history, as many recipes have been passed down through generations.
In contrast, southern cuisine is vibrant, colorful, and slightly sweeter. Com tam (broken rice with grilled pork), hu tieu (clear noodle soup), and an array of tropical fruits showcase the abundance of the Mekong. Street food culture thrives in Ho Chi Minh City, where every corner offers a new flavor to discover. Eating here is more than nourishment; it is an adventure in itself.
Beyond food, Vietnam’s cultural tapestry is woven from festivals, crafts, and performing arts. You might witness traditional music, visit workshops where artisans shape pottery or weave silk, or explore markets where local life unfolds. Each encounter adds depth to your understanding of Vietnam as a country proud of its heritage yet open to the world.

Even the best journey is smoother with preparation. Here are some essentials to keep in mind as you plan to discover Vietnam.
Vietnam’s length means climates vary significantly. Autumn (October–November) and spring (March–April) are ideal for covering both north and south. During these months, Hanoi is cool, Halong Bay is clear, and Ho Chi Minh City enjoys dry warmth. Avoiding the heavy rains of summer ensures a more comfortable journey.
Light, breathable clothing is best for the south, while a light jacket is useful for cool northern evenings. Respectful attire is required when visiting temples—covering shoulders and knees is appreciated. Comfortable shoes are essential, as walking and boat rides are frequent. A sense of curiosity and openness will serve you as well as any item in your luggage.
Vietnam is welcoming and safe for travelers, but basic precautions are wise. Carry small amounts of cash for markets, keep valuables secure, and use apps like Grab for reliable transport. Travel insurance is recommended for peace of mind. Asian Link Travel provides support throughout, so you’ll always have assistance at hand.
Guest experiences speak louder than promises. Many who have joined our Discover The North And South of Vietnam tour describe it as transformative.
