End the day’s explorations; watch a traditional puppet show on water that shows off an ancient art form.

Celebrate your first night on board with a sunset party on the sundeck with tea, coffee, and fresh fruits before dinner is served. While Halong Bay often takes the spotlight, Lan Ha Bay offers a quieter and equally breathtaking escape. With fewer crowds, it’s perfect for those who value tranquility. Its clear waters, secluded beaches, and rich marine life make it ideal for kayaking, swimming, or simply relaxing on the cruise deck. Lan Ha Bay adds a refreshing twist to the journey, making it more diverse and special.

Before embarking on this journey, a few practical details can make the trip smoother.
Spring (March–May) and autumn (September–November) are ideal, with pleasant weather and clear skies. Summer offers lush greenery but comes with higher humidity and occasional rain, while winter provides cooler, misty charm.
Visitors should carry some cash in Vietnamese Dong, though credit cards are widely accepted in cities. Respecting local customs, such as dressing modestly when visiting temples, enriches the cultural experience. English is commonly spoken in tourist areas, making communication easier.
Light clothing, comfortable walking shoes, and a light jacket are recommended. For the cruise, swimsuits, sunscreen, and insect repellent come in handy. Don’t forget a camera to capture the stunning landscapes of Halong and Lan Ha Bay.
Food is an essential part of every journey, and Vietnam is no exception. Travelers often remember not only the places they visit but also the dishes they taste along the way. On this A Glance of Northern Vietnam tour, cuisine becomes a highlight that connects visitors with the country’s soul. From the bustling street food stalls in Hanoi to the refined seafood dinners on Halong Bay, every bite tells a story of tradition and flavor.
No trip to Hanoi is complete without indulging in its world-famous street food. Phở, the iconic noodle soup, delivers comfort in every spoonful with its fragrant broth and tender beef or chicken. Bún chả, a combination of grilled pork, rice noodles, and herbs, offers a balance of smoky and fresh flavors.
Bánh mì introduces a French twist with crispy baguettes filled with savory or fresh ingredients. And finally, egg coffee—a creamy, rich beverage—surprises first-timers with its dessert-like texture. Walking through Hanoi’s Old Quarter, travelers can sample these specialties from local vendors, making it an authentic culinary adventure.
As the journey moves to Halong Bay and Lan Ha Bay, cuisine shifts from the vibrant street food of Hanoi to the serene luxury of cruise dining. Here, seafood takes center stage, with freshly caught squid, prawns, and fish prepared in both traditional Vietnamese and international styles.
Travelers may enjoy a multi-course dinner as the sun sets over limestone cliffs, creating an atmosphere that feels almost magical. Some cruises also offer cooking demonstrations or evening BBQs on deck, allowing guests to connect more deeply with the culinary traditions of the region. This fusion of scenery and food ensures that dining becomes as memorable as sightseeing.
Yes, the itinerary is designed to be inclusive. Activities are moderate, and there are plenty of opportunities to rest. Both children and elderly travelers can comfortably enjoy the trip with proper preparation.
Absolutely. Restaurants in Hanoi and cruises on Halong Bay can prepare vegetarian meals upon request. It’s best to inform the tour operator in advance to ensure all preferences are met.
Group sizes may vary, but most tours keep the groups small to ensure personalized attention. This allows guides to better interact with travelers and create a more intimate experience.
Yes, extensions are possible. Many travelers choose to stay longer in Hanoi or travel to other parts of Vietnam such as Sapa or Hue. Tour operators can assist with these arrangements.
